We arrived in Bangkok on August 30th after a quick flight from Chiang Mai.  We found a really nice Airbnb in a high-rise condo building in the Makkasan area of town that had a great view of the city.

Bangkok was a big change of scenery compared to Chiang Mai. It has all of the aspects of a big city…horrendous traffic, skyscraper buildings, and a well-developed public transportation system.  But even amongst the big city chaos, you’re never far from some amazing street food, historic Buddhist temples, and labyrinths of night markets.

We thought we’d escape the hustle and bustle of the city so we decided to take a longboat tour around the city.  The longboats are powered by auto engines with a propellor attached to the end of a long driveshaft.  The tour gives you a very different view of the city and the people who live in it.  We made a stop at the famous Wat Arun temple and even had the chance to purchase beer from a lady on a floating market.

After a few days in Bangkok, Maley left back home to Dallas while we continued on our journey.  We moved to a different Airbnb in Nana Plaza and spent the next couple of days hanging around Nana and visiting the MBK indoor market where we each got pedicures.  Only a couple more days to go before we caught our flight to our last stop in Thailand, the island of Phuket.
